The Foreign Office summoned US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker and conveyed a formal demarche over the statement made during the US envoy’s visit to Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Foreign Office, Pakistan categorically rejected the remarks, reiterating that Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised disputed territory whose final status is to be determined in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

Pakistan said the US ambassador’s statement was inconsistent with Washington’s longstanding documented position on the Kashmir dispute and contrary to principles of international law and the UN Charter.

The Foreign Office also recalled US President Donald Trump’s offer of mediation between Pakistan and India on the Kashmir issue, saying that public statements by US officials should remain consistent with the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan urged the United States to maintain consistency in its position on the longstanding dispute.
