UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the One-China Principle and its “ironclad friendship” with the People’s Republic of China, while underscoring the enduring significance of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 as a cornerstone of international legitimacy and the multilateral system.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, addressed a seminar held at the UN Headquarters, describing the 1971 restoration of China’s rightful place in the United Nations as a seminal act of historical justice and a defining milestone in the evolution of multilateral diplomacy.
He emphasized that this historic decision reaffirmed the government of China as the sole and legitimate representative of the whole of China, and reiterated that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China that can never be separated from the motherland.
Ambassador Ahmad commended China’s constructive and responsible role in global affairs, noting that since its restoration, China has remained a steadfast defender of the UN Charter, serving as an anchor of international peace, stability, and development.
He also lauded the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping, whose people-centered governance and strategic foresight have positioned China as a driving force for global stability and cooperation.
The ambassador reaffirmed that Pakistan takes deep pride in its friendship with China and greatly values China’s unwavering commitment to international cooperation and its efforts to revitalize multilateral diplomacy.
“This commitment,” he said, “is clearly reflected in China’s vision of building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind and its related initiatives — the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative.”
Acknowledging the unprecedented and complex challenges confronting the world today, Ambassador Ahmad expressed Pakistan’s firm belief in China’s ability to inject renewed dynamism into the United Nations and to steer global efforts toward a more inclusive, equitable, and cooperative multilateral order.
He concluded by reaffirming Pakistan’s enduring support, stating: “China will always have Pakistan’s firm support and cooperation in this shared endeavor.”
