Speaking at a United Nations Security Council meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad said Israeli settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territories continues despite international calls for an end to such practices.
He questioned the continuation of Israeli attacks following the ceasefire, saying that more than 1,200 Palestinians had reportedly been killed since the ceasefire came into effect.
“How can attacks continue if the ceasefire is still in place?” the Pakistani envoy asked, stressing the need for the international community to ensure effective implementation of the truce.
Asim Iftikhar said illegal settlement expansion, settler violence and the forced displacement of Palestinians must be brought to an end. He added that members of the Security Council reject the annexation of occupied territories.
The Pakistani envoy also called for accountability for war crimes and other serious violations, stressing that those responsible must be held accountable under international law.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and said Islamabad would continue to support their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.
According to Asim Iftikhar, a just and comprehensive peace remains the only viable path to lasting stability in the region.
He reiterated Pakistan’s support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Pakistan has consistently maintained that a durable resolution to the Palestinian issue requires the realization of Palestinian statehood and the protection of the political and fundamental rights of the Palestinian people.
