NEW YORK: Pakistan has called upon the international forums including the UN to help in bringing reforms in the agriculture sector in developing countries to tackle the growing food insecurity and climate change issues.
The reforms could include steps aimed at facilitating farmers through adequate access to seeds, fertilizer and finance.
The suggestion was put forth by Pakistan’s counsellor Hafiza Humaira Javaid while speaking at the Second Committee of UN General Assembly on Eradication of Poverty and Agriculture Development, Food Security and Nutrition in New York.
She said that debt crisis should also be resolved and equitable financial structures be ensured by introducing reforms in international financial institutions.
The counsellor also called upon the developed countries to fulfill their commitments towards providing financial, technological, and capacity building support to the developing countries.
