Pakistan spending huge resources on renewable energy projects

Pakistani diplomat says progress is being made in climate change adaptation.

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan is making efforts and utilizing all available resources in renewable energy projects to offset climate change impact.

Speaking at a UN working group on human rights and transnational corporations as well as other business enterprise, Pakistan’s Third Secretary Hadeeqa Qureshi said her country was working to advance environmental protection and climate change adaptation.

“We are also working on various aspects of responsible business conduct, including due diligence practices, labor rights, child labor prevention, equitable wages.”

It may be mentioned here that Pakistan has launched a National Action Plan (NAP) in 2021 on Business and Human Rights (BHR), to overcome the challenges, and fulfill its international and domestic obligations for protection of human rights.

Ms Qureshi added that some of the achievements in line with implementation of NAP included National Clean Air Policy 2023, passing of a resolution on equipping of industrial areas with solar parks, solarization of 200,000 houses, and solarization of 700 reverse osmosis plants.

Pakistan is also investing more in renewable energy projects to promote environment protection agenda and make progress in climate change adaptation.
