NEW YORK: Ambassador of Pakistan to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh along with the Consul General in New York Aamer Ahmed Atozai and the Trade and Investment Counsellor Adnan Mahmood Awan held a meeting with Dr. Babar Rao, President of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America (APPNA).
During the meeting, Dr. Rao briefed the Pakistani leadership on the activities of APPNA, one of the largest professional organizations of Pakistani‑origin physicians in North America.
APPNA is actively engaged in advancing medical education, professional development, community healthcare services, humanitarian assistance, and health‑related initiatives in Pakistan and across North America, while also promoting scientific exchange and community welfare.
The discussions highlighted APPNA’s plans to hold its annual conference in Islamabad in the last week of March 2026, which is expected to bring together physicians, healthcare leaders, researchers, and innovators from the United States, Canada, and Pakistan.
In this context, APPNA expressed interest in obtaining a list of Pakistani health‑related startups, as the organization is placing a growing emphasis on innovation in healthcare and health technology. The Ambassador assured Dr. Rao of the Government of Pakistan’s full support for APPNA’s initiatives and collaborative efforts.
The meeting also focused on opportunities to enhance investment flows from the United States to Pakistan, particularly in light of the prevailing positive business and investor sentiment.
Dr. Rao shared information about APPNA’s group titled “Tajdeed,” which aims to promote renewal, engagement, and development‑oriented initiatives. He conveyed his willingness to engage closely with the Trade and Investment Counsellor to better understand and explore potential investment projects in Pakistan, especially in healthcare and innovation‑driven sectors.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Pakistan–U.S. cooperation through diaspora‑led partnerships, healthcare collaboration, innovation, and investment engagement, recognizing the important role of the Pakistani‑American medical community in advancing bilateral relations.
