ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged the international community to take full cognizance of the grave and deteriorating human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

Responding to media queries regarding the recent wave of arbitrary arrests and detentions of Kashmiri civilians following the Delhi bomb blast incident, Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan remains deeply concerned over the persistent and serious human rights violations in the occupied territory.

He stated that the prevailing Indian policies, marked by widespread detentions, arbitrary arrests, and extensive restrictions on fundamental freedoms, continue to amount to collective punishment of the Kashmiri population. Reports suggesting the profiling of Kashmiri youth on the basis of their identity and faith have further intensified Pakistan’s concerns.

The Spokesperson noted that India continues its attempts to alter the demographic character of the occupied region while simultaneously eroding the religious, cultural, and social heritage of the Kashmiri people.

These measures appear aligned with a deliberate strategy to suppress the legitimate political aspirations of the Kashmiri population.

He added that thousands of Kashmiri youth remain missing, and many genuine political representatives of the Kashmiri people continue to be detained.

Such coercive actions, he emphasized, cannot diminish the Kashmiri people’s unwavering commitment to achieving their internationally recognized right to self-determination.

The Foreign Office Spokesperson called upon the United Nations and global human rights organizations to urge India to undertake immediate remedial measures, ensure accountability for documented violations, and allow credible international human rights bodies to carry out independent and impartial assessments in the occupied territory.

He reiterated that a just, peaceful, and lasting resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, remains essential for durable peace and stability in South Asia.
