ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has welcomed the partial award issued by the Court of Arbitration on June 27 regarding the Kishanganga and Ratle hydropower projects on the request of Islamabad.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson, the court confirmed its jurisdiction over the dispute and affirmed its full authority to conduct the proceedings in a timely, effective, and fair manner.

The spokesperson noted that the partial award was delivered despite India’s announcement to “pause” the Indus Waters Treaty proceedings. The decision, Pakistan said, validates its position that the Indus Waters Treaty remains fully operational and effective.

“It has been established that India has no right to take unilateral actions under the treaty,” the statement said, urging India to fulfill its obligations under the treaty completely and in good faith.
