Pakistan Will Continue Decisive Action Against Terrorism: Envoy

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmed has reaffirmed the country’s commitment to taking strong and decisive action against terrorism.

He stated that stating terrorist attacks are directly targeting Pakistan’s peace and economic stability.

In an interview with Arab News, Pakistan’s envoy said that banned outfits, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), are attempting to spread instability across the region. He added that terrorist attacks are being orchestrated from safe havens across the border, emphasizing that Pakistan will continue its determined campaign against terrorism.

Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said that Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share a historic and strategically significant defense agreement. He said the defense cooperation between the two countries reflects a partnership spanning several decades, rooted in brotherly relations and shared strategic interests.

Saudi Arabia, he noted, is an important economic partner of Pakistan, and following the defense agreement, economic cooperation between the two countries is also expanding rapidly.

The Pakistani envoy further stressed that a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state are unavoidable for lasting peace in the region.

He also underlined the need for reforms to make the United Nations more effective in addressing global challenges.
