THE HAGUE: Pakistani-origin politician and community leader Adeel Mahmood has been appointed as an Alderman (Wethouder), effectively becoming Deputy Mayor of The Hague in a landmark moment for the city’s diverse communities.

Mahmood assumes the executive municipal role after serving as a city councilor and parliamentary leader for the DENK party. He will oversee mobility, public services, municipal organization, and district management for Laak.

His appointment marks a significant milestone for the Pakistani diaspora in the Netherlands. It also reflects the growing representation of minority communities in European municipal leadership.
