KARACHI: A Pakistani woman had to endure a wait of 16 long years to meet her family in Karachi after marrying a man hailing from illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Saira Javed is wife of Javed Ahmed who along with thousands of other Kashmiri Muslims had to migrate from the occupied Kashmir to Azad Kashmir in 1990 and then to Pakistan due to the excesses of the occupying regime.
In 2001, Javed and Saira got married in Pakistan. About 16 years ago, Javed along with his wife returned to occupied Kashmir under the so-called rehabilitation policy of the then puppet chief minister Farooq Abdullah under which Kashmiri youth were allowed back home along with their Pakistani wives.
However, Saira remained trapped in occupied Kashmir as she was not allowed to return to Pakistan to meet her parents. In the meantime, her father passed away and she had to watch his funeral in a video sent to her by her relatives.
This month, due to efforts of some human rights organizations Saira was allowed to visit her parents’ home in Karachi. However, this time her husband couldn’t accompany her as he was not granted permission.
The woman said after 16 long years she had the opportunity to visit Pakistan but her husband couldn’t accompany her so her ordeal continues
