WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s new Ambassador to the USA Rizwan Saeed Sheikh has formally taken charge of his office after reaching Washington DC.
The new ambassador spent a busy day on first day in office and met and received briefings from heads of different sections of the embassy. Moreover, Pakistan’s four consuls general gave briefing to the embassador via video link.
During his interaction with the diplomatic and other staff of the embassy and the consulates general, Ambassador Sheikh stressed the importance of result-oriented diplomacy. He highlighted the significance of Pakistan-US relations that spanned over seven decades.
The ambassador said that further enhancing the bilateral relations, especially in the financial sector and people-to-people contact, would be among his top priorities. He said that the Pakistani community living in the US was our main asset. He said because of its hard work the Pakistani diaspora had not only earned a name for itself but was also a strong link between the two countries on the diplomatic front.
The ambassador directed that all possible efforts should be made to enhance services and provide facilities to the Pakistani community.
It may be noted here that Rizwan Saeed Sheikh was named as the ambassador of Pakistan to the US in the last week of June this year. He has replaced Masood Khan whose extended tenure in Washington expired in June.
The new ambassador earlier served in the Pakistan embassy in Washington for many years. He is a professional diplomate and has also served on senior posts in different countries.
