NEW YORK: Protests have erupted in educational institutions across the United States of America over the arrest of a Palestinian student of Columbia University, Mahmoud Khalil.

According to foreign media reports, more than 100 students from New York University and the City University of New York gathered in Washington Square Park and demonstrated in favor of the Palestinians.

Protests were also held at the University of California Berkeley and in Los Angeles in solidarity with Palestinian supporter Mahmoud Khalil.

The protesting students were carrying banners and placards and chanting slogans in favour of the student and asking the administration to stop such steps.

According to media reports, the US federal court has stopped the forced eviction of Mahmoud Khalil, but the Trump administration claims that Mahmoud Khalil is a supporter of Hamas and will be deported.

The students said that Trump administration’s move against the student and other Palestinians was unjustified and would be resisted at all available forums.
