The negotiations between the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association and Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik continued for around five hours but ended without a breakthrough. The atmosphere reportedly remained tense during the meeting.

Petroleum dealers had demanded changes to the daily fuel price adjustment mechanism. According to the association, the government refused to change the existing system.

The government, however, assured the dealers that it would consider increasing their margin by Rs1.34 per litre, but the proposal would require approval from the federal cabinet.

The dealers said they were dissatisfied with the outcome of the talks and decided to return to Karachi, where an emergency meeting of their executive committee was also called.

The association has reiterated that its strike decision remains unchanged. If implemented as announced, petrol pumps across the country will begin closing from 6am on August 15 and remain shut for an indefinite period.
