According to sources, IATA has informed PIA management that the airline has successfully cleared the latest audit. The approval will keep PIA’s operational safety audit status valid until 2028.

The risk-based and rigorous audit was conducted this year and covered various aspects of the airline’s operational safety and procedures.

The IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) is an internationally recognised assessment system used to evaluate airlines against established operational safety standards.

According to a PIA spokesperson, the airline’s next IOSA audit is scheduled for September 2028. Previously, the audit was conducted every two years, while PIA has now received a three-year validity period.

The development is being viewed as a positive step for the national airline as it works to strengthen its operational and safety standards.

IATA’s safety programmes are aimed at improving airline safety standards and ensuring safer air travel for passengers, while the organisation also promotes environmentally sustainable practices to reduce carbon emissions across the aviation industry.
