KARACHI: The country manager of PIA in Qatar has been arrested on the charge of dishonesty in handling luggage of the passengers.
A PIA spokesman in Karachi however said that the arrest was a result of misunderstanding and the country manager was being provided legal assistance by the Pakistani embassy in court.
The spokesman said that the authorities in Doha accused the PIA country manager of taking the luggage of passengers to his residence which was against the rules.
However, the spokesman said that as the PIA had no office at the airport, luggage of passengers mistakenly not dispatched with them in any flight were shifted to the residence of the country manager for onward dispatch to the passengers after contacting them.
He said though this practice could be against rules and routine procedures it cannot be considered a criminal offense.
