Chairing a review meeting in Lahore on Saturday, the prime minister instructed that compensation be provided to families who lost loved ones as well as owners of houses damaged partially or completely by the rains and floods.
He also directed the authorities to expedite the restoration of electricity transmission networks and roads, while ordering federal ministers and senior officials to personally visit affected areas, assess the damage and oversee relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The prime minister called for the immediate dispatch of food and other essential supplies to areas that remain cut off, and directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and provincial disaster management authorities to maintain full preparedness as further rainfall and flooding is forecast.
Officials briefed the meeting that 615 tonnes of relief goods had already been sent to monsoon-affected areas, with additional supplies being arranged.
Restoration work is underway across Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, while flood victims have been shifted to safer locations.
The meeting was further informed that early warning systems in the Northern Areas are operational and have enabled the timely evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas.
