PM launches special anti-polio drive to cover 30m children
Weeklong campaign will continue in 115 districts across Pakistan till Sept 15.
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Monday inaugurated a weeklong anti-polio campaign across the country.
The campaign will continue in 115 districts till Sept 15 to administer drops to 30 million children under the age of five years.
Officials in the health and other departments set that during the weeklong campaign more than 286,000 workers will visit home to home and administer polio drops to children in the 115 districts.
A Park from this there are transit points and mobile team who will administer drops to children at airports, bus stations, railway stations and other areas. Special focus will be made on people who travel from the tribal districts of Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
The special campaign that was inaugurated by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif in Islamabad today has been launched after emergence of a number of polio cases, especially one case that emerged in Islamabad after above 16 years. Moreover, sewage samples collected from different parts of the country have also tested positive for the polio virus.
The crippling disease of polio has been eliminated from across the world long long ago. However, Pakistan and Afghanistan are the two countries that have still not been able to check the virus.
