LAHORE: As all is set for the start of Champions Trophy in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif inaugurated the newly refurbished Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, ministers, cricketers and fans. New towers of LED lights have been installed in the stadium along with new chairs in all the enclosures along with two modern screens. The reconstruction in the stadium was completed in a record time of 117 days.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Sharif said that the construction of the stadium was completed in a very grand manner under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
“Mohsin Naqvi has the habit to take on tour of London all those who do good work. Naqvi sb should take all the 2500 people who worked on the stadium on a tour of London and encourage them.”
He said that Shahbaz speed is now a thing of the past; now let’s talk about Mohsin Speed. Our players played top cricket, won the hearts of the whole nation. the Champions Trophy is waiting for the victory of the national players, you will only be the heroes of the whole nation by winning the Champions Trophy.
Shahbaz Sharif asked the players to take him along to the Pakistan-India match to be played in Dubai. Shaheen Afridi follow your father-in-law and take too many wickets; All will hopefully put this trophy in the pocket of the nation.
He further said that economic stability had returned to Pakistan and a big sporting event was being held in the country after 29 years. The Chief Minister of Punjab will provide best security and fans will get a chance to watch best cricket.
He welcomed US Consul General Kristin Hawkins at the ceremony and expressed optimism that the US cricket team would visit Pakistan soon for international matches.
