LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the formulation of a national strategy focused on austerity and savings in response to global economic pressures caused by regional tensions.
Chairing a meeting on the country’s economic situation, the Prime Minister said that the strategy should reduce the burden on the public and prioritize citizen relief. He instructed that actionable proposals be prepared within 48 hours.
A committee formed last week to study the global economic impacts has been tasked with presenting simple and practical recommendations to ensure there is no shortage of petroleum products in Pakistan.
The Prime Minister directed the Finance and Petroleum Ministers to visit all four provinces and coordinate with provincial governments to develop a plan for conservation of petroleum products and uninterrupted supply to the public.
Shehbaz Sharif also ordered that any petrol pump or company found hoarding fuel or creating artificial shortages should have its license revoked immediately, and legal action should be taken.
