ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the core goal of digital payments in Pakistan is to offer convenience to the public without any additional charges.

Speaking during a high-level review meeting on the country’s transition toward a cashless and digital economy, the prime minister stated that promoting transparency and efficiency remains a top government priority.

“The foundation of our digital economy plan is to ensure that people have access to services without incurring extra costs,” he said He noted that the government is actively encouraging the use of digital financial channels through strategic policy measures.

Mr Sharif directed that meaningful consultations be held with all provincial governments to ensure effective and comprehensive implementation of the plan. “Provinces must fully cooperate with the federal government to successfully implement a cashless economy,” he added.

He instructed that regular and inclusive consultations with all stakeholders be made a permanent part of the digital economy roadmap. The goal, he reiterated, is not just technological adoption but public benefit and financial transparency.
