PM orders immediate action against human smugglers
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his dismay over increasing human trafficking issue and ordered quartered concerned to submit reports about steps to bring the culprits to justice.
Chairing a meeting here, the prime minister said human trafficking was tarnishing the image of Pakistan in the entire world.
The meeting was held after scores of illegal migrants from Pakistan perished when a boat carrying them sank off the coast of Greece two days ago.
Mr Sharif said a substantial delay was committed in taking action against the responsible following a boat capsizing incident in 2023.
The participants of the meeting were told that five Pakistanis, who died in the Greek boat incident, have been identified while process for identification of others is underway.
The meeting was briefed that Pakistani Embassy in Athens can be contacted on the helpline number +30-6943850188 and the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on telephone number 051-9207887 for obtaining any kind of information and assistance regarding the boat incident.
