RAWALPINDI: The PML-N leadership, which has been criticizing the Pakistan Army and advising it to stay away from politics, has confirmed contacts and meetings with the military leadership behind the scenes. Apparently, through these meetings, the PML-N leadership wants relief in legal matters and cases.
An official statement issued by Armed Forces spokesman Major General Babar Iftikhar revealed that PML-N leader and former governor Muhammad Zubair had two recent meetings with Army Chief General Qamar Javed BajwA.
The DG ISPR said that both the meetings were related to PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz. Sources said that apparently the purpose of these meetings was to get relief for Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz. The Chief clarified that legal matters would be resolved in the courts and political issues in Parliament.
According to DG ISPR, PML-N leader Muhammad Zubair’s meetings with Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa were also attended by DG ISI Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed in the last week of August and September 7.
Political analysts say the PML-N leadership, especially Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, have been behind recent rhetoric against the army and attempts to discredit the state institution, apparently in meetings with the army chief. The required relief is not available.
