Police Disrupt JI Press Conference, Arrest Senior Leaders

KARACHI: Police detained several leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), including Sindh Assembly member Muhammad Farooq and the party’s Karachi acting chief Muslim Parvez.

The police disrupted a press conference by the JI leaders near the Sindh Election Commission office and arrested them.

According to party officials, Jamaat-e-Islami had announced a public press conference outside the Election Commission’s office to address issues related to the February 8 general elections. However, as party leaders began the press briefing, police intervened, dismantled the tent set up for the event, and arrested the speakers.

A spokesperson for Jamaat-e-Islami said the arrests were made during the press conference. Police also reportedly ordered the closure of nearby shops and hotels in the area.

Those detained include Muslim Parvez, MPA Muhammad Farooq, district heads Sufyan Dilawar and Mudassar Hussain Ansari, along with other party office-bearers.
