Police kill blasphemy suspect in ‘encounter’

Violent protest held in Umerkot town of Sindh against suspect a day earlier.

UMERKOT (SINDH): Police here shot dead a doctor who had earlier been accused of blasphemy by local people.

The senior superintendent of the police Umerkot told media persons that the blasphemy suspect was shot dead after he along with other person tried to open fire on the police.

He said the police recovered an unlicensed pistol from the possession of the suspect while the other person accompany him escape. The suspect was shot by the police and shifted to hospital where he died.

A day earlier a large number of people held a protest in Umerkot town and damaged public and private properties. They demanded action against the blasphemy suspected doctor. They said he had uploaded blasphemous contents on social media.

It may be noted here that a police official shot dead a blasphemy suspect in the Kharotabad police station of Quetta a few days ago. The blasphemy suspect had been arrested and kept in the police station when the police man killed him.

Later, the relatives of the deceased said that they had forgiven the killer and did not want to pursue the case.
