PESHAWAR: Superintendent of Police (SP) Ijaz Khan Sherpao was martyred in an encounter between police and alleged terrorists while three policemen, including a DSP, were injured. The police also killed two of the terrorists.
Mardan police confirmed the incident and said that the encounter took place in Katling area of Mardan, where after receiving information about the presence of terrorists the SP along with a police team had arrived.
According to police sources, the terrorists who were already present at the place started firing on seeing the police and also attacked them with hand grenades, killing the police officer. Two guards of the SP, Mansoor and Salim, were injured.
The injured were shifted to Katling Hospital and later to Mardan Medical Complex Hospital in critical condition.
According to DPO Mardan Najibur Rehman, the police have started a search operation in the area, adding that two terrorists have also been killed in the retaliatory action of the police.
The funeral prayer of martyred SP Ijaz Khan was performed in the police lines and later his body was sent to his native Sherpa area of Charsadda.
