LAKKI MARWAT: A large number of officials from the police continued their protest sit-in on a major highway in Lakki Marwat city of Khyber Pakthunkhwa for the third consecutive day.
The protesters are demanding that interference in their daily official work should by stopped by other law enforcement agencies. They have said that they should be given a free hand to deal with terrorists in order to maintain peace in the area.
Initially, the protest was launched by officials of the Lakki Marwat district police, but later officials and employees of police from the nearby districts of Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Karak also joined them.
Government representatives failed to persuade the police officials to end their protest gathering at Tajazai Chowk in the city of Lakki Marwat. Because of the Dharna, traffic on the inter-provincial Indus Highway remained blocked for the third day running.
The protesters say that they have become fed up with the interference by law enforcement agencies in their routine work. They demand that the police should be given power to tackle the issue of terrorism. The protesters vowed to continue their Dharna till the acceptance of their demands.
