Police pick Baloch protesters in Islamabad; action condemned

Islamabad police baton charge and arrest participants of protest held gainst enforced disappearances in Balochistan.

ISLAMABAD: Police in the federal capital on Wednesday night swopped on hundreds of protesters outside National Press Club and batoned charge them.

The police later rounded up scores of protesters, including women, and shifted them to different police stations. 

The protesters had marched from different parts of Balochistan and reached Islamabad demanding recovery of hundreds of Baloch people. They had said that they would continue their protest till the recovery of their loved ones and action against those who picked them.

Meanwhile, civil society activists and rights defenders condemned the police action and demanded release of the protesters.

Amnesty International also condemned the police for using force against the peaceful protesters. Rights activists demanded that instead of arresting the protesters the government should bring to book all those by behind disappearance of Baloch people.
