ISLAMABAD: The newly elected office-bearers of PRA Pakistan were sworn in at a formal ceremony held at Parliament House in Islamabad, where Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq administered the oath.
The event drew senior parliamentarians and government officials, including Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Deputy Chairman Senate Syedal Khan Nasir, MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, and MNA Sharmila Faruqi, with proceedings conducted by PRA Secretary Naveed Akbar.
In his address, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq described parliamentary reporters as the “eyes and ears of Parliament”, underlining that responsible reporting strengthens democratic processes.
He reaffirmed that the National Assembly Secretariat will continue to provide every possible support to journalists covering parliamentary affairs.
Deputy Chairman Syedal Khan Nasir highlighted the representative character of PRA Pakistan, noting its membership from all four provinces and calling it a symbol of national unity.
He said Parliament is taking steps to improve press gallery facilities and expand coverage opportunities for reporters.
Federal Minister Attaullah Tarar acknowledged the vital role of parliamentary reporters in conveying the House proceedings to the public and pledged cooperation to address long-standing challenges such as unemployment, job insecurity, and professional obstacles.
PRA President M.B.B. Soomro thanked the guests and urged that the press gallery remain open during House and joint sessions, while calling for enhanced facilities, welfare funds, and institutional backing for PRA members.
PRA Secretary Naveed Akbar reiterated that the new body reflects journalistic harmony across provinces and renewed the association’s request for a dedicated annual budget allocation to support journalists during difficult times.
The ceremony also included presentation of traditional Sindhi Ajrak to guests, senior journalists, and newly elected members as a gesture of cultural harmony and national cohesion.
A large number of parliamentary reporters, officials from the National Assembly and Senate, and representatives of various media houses attended the ceremony.
PRA Pakistan extended special gratitude to the National Assembly and Senate Secretariats and to DG Media National Assembly, Zafar Sultan, for their role in facilitating a smooth and successful event.
