WARWICK: An armed mam opened fire on the prayer leader of a mosque located near New York early on Wednesday morning.
According to the area police, Hassan Sharif was shot multiple times from close range by the gunman outside the mosque.
The injured was taken to hospital where he died on Wednesday evening. The area police said they were investigating the incident. The motive behind the attack could not be ascertained.
The Muhammad Mosque was established in the yearc1955 in the Warwick area. People coming to a nearby church said they often had seen Sharif preparing for prayers outside the mosque.
The Muslim community of the area have expressed shock over the killing and demanded that the culprit should be arrested and brought to Justice.
