ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has given final approval to the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils (Amendment) Bill 2025.
According to a statement issued by the President’s House on Friday, the President signed the bill, turning it into law.
The legislation aims to bring greater transparency, accountability, and trust to the electoral processes of bar councils across the country. With its enactment, the government seeks to strengthen democratic practices within the legal fraternity and ensure more credible representation of lawyers in bar councils.
Legal experts have welcomed the move, stating that it could reduce disputes and controversies that often arise during bar council elections. They emphasized that transparent procedures would not only benefit lawyers but also enhance the public’s confidence in the legal system.
The new law is also seen as part of broader efforts to reform the judicial and legal framework in Pakistan. By introducing clarity and checks in the election process, the government hopes to foster professionalism, strengthen institutions, and improve the overall functioning of the legal community.
