Pretorius smashed 188 runs from just 79 balls, hitting 13 fours and 15 sixes in a spectacular display of power hitting.
Gayle had previously held the record after scoring an unbeaten 175 from 66 balls for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League. His innings included 13 fours and 17 sixes.
Pretorius fell just 12 runs short of becoming the first batter to score a double century in T20 cricket. However, his extraordinary innings was enough to surpass Gayle’s record.
His knock also made him the highest individual run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket.
Inspired by Pretorius’ explosive batting, the Titans posted 267 for three, which ranks as the second-highest total in the history of the CSA T20 Challenge.
