RAWALPINDI: Four prisoners in the Adiala jail of Rawalpindi have murdered another inmate by hanging, jail authorities said on Wednesday.
They said the five prisoners, all aids patients, were kept in a cell. On the night of De 2 and 3, the four prisoners hanged the fifth in the aids ward.
The officials said that there were suspicions that the four prisoners killed the man after sexually assaulting him. However, the dead body has been shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital for a postmortem.
A murder case has been registered against the four prisoners at the Saddar Berooni police station.
The inspector general of prisons Punjab has taken notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry. He also suspended the assistant superintendent of the jail along with three other officials over negligence.
It may be mentioned here that there are over 7,000 prisoners in the Adiala jail which has the capacity of housing 2,200 inmates.
