Probe Expanded into Escape of 14 Prisoners from Adiala Jail

RAWALPINDI: Authorities have widened the investigation into the escape of 14 undertrial prisoners following their court appearance, with police now examining the mobile phone data and call records of detained police personnel.

According to police sources, investigators are determining whether the prisoners were re-handcuffed after meeting visitors during their appearance at the Kahuta court before they managed to escape.

Officials are also questioning the armed police personnel assigned to the prison transport vehicle and reviewing whether standard operating procedures (SOPs) for escorting high-risk prisoners to court were properly followed.

Following the incident, Inspector General of Punjab Police Rao Abdul Karim took immediate notice and ordered disciplinary action against those found responsible.

SP Headquarters Mudassar Iqbal was removed from his post and directed to report to Lahore, while DSP Headquarters Imtiaz Ahmed was suspended with immediate effect.

The IGP has also sought a detailed report on the incident from Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer (RPO) Babar Sarfraz as the investigation continues.
