MANCHESTER: A protest was held outside a police station in Manchester after a video clip showing a police officer beating a Pakistani youth at the local airport went viral on social media.
The Pakistani community expressed dismay over the police high-handedness and called upon the authorities to take action against the responsible.
The viral video shows a police officer kicking a man who has fallen on the ground. The police also hit another person sitting on a bench beside him.
A spokesman for the Greater Manchester Police said officers had been sent to the airport after a report was received about a fighting between some people. He said the police were probing the matter.
Assistant Chief Constable Wasim Chaudhry however said the police officer involved in the beating has been suspended.
The UK home office minister told media that the incident was very shocking and a report had been sought from the police for action against the culprits.
The Pakistani community said such highhandedness by police was unacceptable and the officer involved in it should be punished without delay.
