CHAMAN: The participants of a protest sit-in on border road in Chaman attacked polio teams in different parts o the town as a nationwide drive started on Monday.
The protesters, mostly traders and transporters, have been staging the sit-in at Chaman for the last about seven months against a government decision to make it mandatory for them to travel across the Afghan border on passport.
As polio workers started door to door drive, the protesters targeted and attacked them and tried to snatch polio boxes form the officials. they also tried to snatch weapons from security personnel guarding the polio workers and injured four of them. In firing incidents, four security personnel ere injured.
Chaman deputy commissioner Athar Abbas told media that extra security personnel had been sent to the area and the polio drive would continue at all costs.
Home minister of Balochistan, on the other hand, condemned the attack on polio workers and said that stern action would be taken against the elements involved in the incident.
