PTA bans 46 gambling and forex apps in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has banned 46 gambling and forex applications on the recommendation of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).

According to an NCCIA spokesperson, these apps were illegally collecting billions of rupees from the public. The banned applications include unregulated forex trading platforms as well as apps that were gathering personal data, mobile numbers, and SIM details of citizens without consent.

The spokesperson added that several of these apps were luring young people into gambling and “get-rich-quick” schemes, thereby misleading them.
