PESHAWAR: The PTI has filed a petition in Peshawar High Court to get back its election symbol of ‘Bat’ that was snatched from it a few days ago.
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Dec 22 on a petition removed Bat as the election symbol of the PTI saying it had failed to hold the recent intra-party election in accordance with its constitution.
The PTI in its petition filed in PHC sought back its election symbol with the plea that the court may declare the ECP ruling as illegal.
The PTI also requested the court to form a bench of senior judges and hear the petition onan priority basis.
It said that the ECP had mo powers to nullify the intra-party election of any political and neither it had passed such an order against any party in the past.
The petition also stayed that the intra-party election of the PTI was challenged in the ECP by a person who was not a member of the party.
The decision to declare tge intra-party election of the PTI was taken by a five-member commission headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikendar Sultan Raja on Friday evening.
A few weeks ago, the PTI held its intra-party election and announced that Gohar Ali Khan had been elected as chairman in place of Imran Khan.
However, former PTI leader Akbar S. Babar moved the ECP and contended that the intra-party election was held in violation of rules.
