ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf has challenged the election amendment bill in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
The petition filed by PTI lawyer Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan requested the apex court to declare the amendment null and void under article 184 of the Constitution of Pakistan.
The election amendment Bill was passed by the National Assembly of Pakistan three days back amid rumpus and uproar by members of the PTI. Yesterday the bill was also passed by Senate of Pakistan.
The opposition parties are of the view that by amending the election bill the government was planning to deprive the PTI of its reserved seats which the Supreme Court had recently ordered to allocate to the party based on the general seats it won in the February general elections in the country.
The the PTI said that the government was trying to use Parliament for its own political agenda. It said that the Supreme Court had granted the right to the PTI to have reserved seats and the government cannot snatch this right by bringing in changes to the law.
