LAHORE: PTI leaders and prominent lawyers Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja were here on Sunday arrested during a protest held by the party against alleged rigging in the February 8 elections.
The party had given a protest call across the country against the alleged rigging in the February 8th general elections. The PTI says that it would continue its protest till an inquiry is held into the alleged irregularities in the elections.
During protest rally in Lahore, police arrested Latif Khosa, Salman Akram Raja and PTI MPA Hafiz Farhat Abbas and shifted them to an undisclosed place.
PTI leaders were also picked up from other cities of Punjab. MPA Mian Haroon Akbar was detained in Lahore during a rally at Shadman area. Shahbaz Khosa, son of Latif Khosa, told media that during a peaceful rally his son was arrested by police and taken away to an undisclosed place.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Bar Association asked the government to immediately release senior lawyers Latif Khosa and Salman Akram Raja.
In a statement, SCBA President Shahzad Shaukat and Secretary Ali Imran condemned the arrests and said it was a matter of gravest concern for the lawyers community.
“The recent trend of targeting and arresting members of the legal fraternity is alarming. It reflects a blatant disregard for constitutional rights, rampant lawlessness and abuse of power,” added the statement.
