PTI prohibited funding case, scrutiny committee stopped investigation

The scrutiny committee of the Election Commission of Pakistan has stopped the investigation in the PTI party funding case. Petitioner Akbaris Babar alleged that the committee was not impartial and was under pressure.

According to sources, a meeting of the committee investigating the PTI prohibited funding case was held under the chairmanship of DG Law Muhammad Arshad. Talking to media outside the Election Commission, Akbar S. Babar said that the scrutiny committee was under pressure. PTI lawyer Shah Khawar said that the scrutiny committee has been given all the evidence and proofs of the transactions. The committee has stopped the investigation on the objection of the petition.

According to sources, after the no-confidence motion of Akbar S. Babar, the scrutiny committee said that it could not conduct further investigation. The decision has also been communicated to the Election Commission.

The sources said that the ECP has directed the scrutiny committee to submit the investigation report soon. The ECP members will review the investigation report after which it will be decided whether to conduct further investigation or not.
