PESHAWAR: Thousands of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters took to the streets of Peshawar and other cities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.
The protests, led by senior PTI leaders, demanded the immediate release of party founder Imran Khan and an end to what they termed state oppression.
Senator Faisal Javed Khan addressed a large gathering outside the Peshawar Press Club, reiterating PTI’s demands for Imran Khan’s release. “Imran Khan’s imprisonment on baseless charges is a blatant attack on democracy and the will of the people, he declared.
The former prime minister has been in custody for over a year, following a conviction in a controversial case widely seen as politically motivated.
Similar rallies were also held in other parts of the province, led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ministers and PTI leaders. In Lakki Marwat, Sher Afzal Marwat spearheaded a demonstration, emphasizing Imran Khan’s enduring influence. Imran Khan’s vision continues to inspire us. His physical absence doesn’t diminish his impact, sher Afzal Marwat said.
PTI leaders emphasized several key demands during the protests, Immediate release of Imran Khan, end to state oppression, targeted harassment of PTI leaders, restoration of the people’s mandate and intervention of the Supreme Court to ensure PTI receives its rightful special seats in national and provincial assemblies.
Faisal Javed Khan stressed that these protests were not isolated events, but part of a broader movement spanning the country. Every corner of Pakistan is rising up today to reject the illegal 26th constitutional amendment and demand the restoration of democracy.
The protests reflect the escalating tensions between PTI and the government, with Imran Khan’s imprisonment remaining a contentious issue.
