PTI uses virtual space to garner public support

Leaders of party who have gone underground to avoid arrest also joins virtual Jalsa.

ISLAMABAD: Unable to have mass contact due to fear of arrest and crackdown, the PTI took to the social media and held a virtual public meeting to garner public support for the forthcoming general elections.

A number of party leaders who have either fled from the country or gone underground also join the gathering for the first time since the crackdown launched against the PTI after the May 9 violence by its supporters.

These leaders included Zartaj Gul, Hamad Azhar, Zulfi Bukhari and Shahzad Gill.

Moreover, former PPP leader and lawyer Sardar Latif Khosa announced to formally join the PTI while attending the online Jalsa.

The PTI leaders while addressing the virtual public meeting complained that the party was being targetted and not allowed to take part in political activities.

They demanded that the judiciary should take notice of the situation and ensure that the PTI is given a level playing field so that it can take part in the elections.

On the other hand, there were reports about disruptions to social media sites in many areas during the virtual public meeting of the party.
