PTI’s rally timing ends, power supply to venue cut off

DC orders action against violation of terms and conditions of NOC and get the venue vacated.

LAHORE: The deputy commissioner of Lahore has ordered the police to get the venue of the PTI’s public gathering vacated as the timing of the rally ended at 6pm.

He also directed that the timing of the public gathering, from 3pm to 6pm, had to be followed by letter and spirit otherwise legal action would be initiated against the organizers.

On the direction of the DC, lights of the venue were switched off pushing the whole area into darkness. Moreover, with the switching off of the lights, the sound system also stopped working.

In order to avoid embarrassment, the PTI leaders approached the district administration and started talks to restore lights and allow them to conclude the gathering with an extension of the time.

After the lights were switched off and sound system closed, Khyber Pakthunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur arrived and spoke to party workers and said even due to the closure of roads he had reached the venue and wanted to address the Lahoris. He said though he was unable to speak due to the government action, his Salam should be conveyed to the people of Punjab.

Earlier, Punjab government spokesperson Uzma Bukhari said the PTI had once again exposed its design to spread chaos and mayhem, this time in Lahore, but it would not be allowed to destroy the peace of the city.

She said that Khyber Pakthunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur should go for holding the public gathering and if a participant falls sick the Punjab government would arrange a helicopter to airlift them.

Ms Bukhari also said that if anyone involved in the May 9 arson attacks on military installations was seen in the public gathering or if the participants tried to create chaos the law would take its course and the culprits will be arrested.
