PTM leader Manzoor Pashteen arrested in Chaman

DC says firing opened on police from vehicle of the PTM leader.

CHAMAN: Pashtoon Tahaffuz Movement chief Manzoor Pashteen was on Monday arrested by law enforcement agencies in Chaman.

Pashteen was going to Turbat to attend a protest sit-in there against extra-judicial killing of a youth. The protest in Turbat has continued for over 10 days.

The deputy commissioner of Chaman told media that Pashteen was arrested after firing was opened on the police from his vehicle.

However, hours before the DC’s claim the PTM in a post on social media network platform of X stated that Pashteen was on way to Turbat when law enforcement agencies opened fire at his convoy. It said that the law enforcement personnel were coming close to arrest him.

Balochistan’s information minister Jan Achakzai said that a ban had been clamped on the entry of Pashteen in the province but he violated it and reached Chaman to take out a rally to Turbat.

The DC of Chaman said Pashteen was arrested in connection with today’s incident as well as a ban on his entry into Balochistan.

He said that the PTM leader would later be presented before a district magistrate.

Officials said the PTM leader would be produced in a court on Tuesday a d was likely to be expelled from the province.
