Punjab, Balochistan, GB and AJK polio-free, meeting told
Kakar orders emergency plan for next year for polio eradication in the country.
ISLAMABAD: The National Task Force on polio eradication held a meeting in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar.
Various matters related to ongoing polio eradication campaign in the country, challenges and future course of actions were discussed in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the prime minister expressed concerns over emergence of if polio cases in Pakistan.
It is a matter of concern that polio has been eradicated from across the globe but only Pakistan and Afghanistan were still unable to get rid of it.
The caretaker prime minister directed the authorities concerned to devise an emergency plan for next year for polio eradication in the country.
He said all stakeholders including scholars, teachers and parents should be included in the anti-polio awareness campaign.
Officials told the meeting that Punjab, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are polio-free regions.
Polio teams have been deputed at repatriation centers established for illegally residing Afghans in Peshawar Nowshera and Chaman.
