LAHORE: Under the Smart Transport Project, the Punjab government has officially launched the pilot E-Taxi Scheme aimed at providing affordable travel facilities and self-employment opportunities.
As part of the scheme, 1,100 e-taxi vehicles will be handed over to unemployed youth on five-year easy installments. The provincial government will contribute a total subsidy of Rs. 3.5 billion.
The scheme is open not only to individuals — both men and women — but also to private companies that may wish to acquire vehicles in larger numbers.
Applications are being accepted until October 5, 2025, after which vehicles will be distributed through a transparent balloting process.
Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi said the e-taxi scheme is a major initiative that will help reduce unemployment across Punjab while also providing citizens with affordable and comfortable transport services.
