According to government officials, the loan, equivalent to approximately Rs9.9 billion, will be spent on initiatives aimed at promoting digital financial transactions and improving transparency and oversight within the provincial financial system.

Officials said the project is designed to strengthen monitoring mechanisms for financial transactions and reduce dependence on cash. The introduction of a cashless system is expected to minimize the risk of financial irregularities, while digital platforms will make revenue collection records more efficient, transparent and easier to monitor.

With support from the World Bank, the Punjab government plans to bring its financial and revenue systems in line with modern digital standards. More than Rs9.9 billion will be allocated for the relevant components of the project.

Under the initiative, the provincial government’s capacity to collect revenue will also be strengthened. The systems for collecting taxes and other government dues will be modernized and digitized to make the process more efficient and transparent.

The project will also provide citizens with convenient cashless payment options for government fees, taxes and other official charges. Officials expect the wider adoption of digital payments to improve revenue collection, enhance financial transparency and strengthen oversight of government transactions.

The initiative is ultimately aimed at developing a more modern, transparent and efficient financial and revenue management system in Punjab while accelerating the province’s transition toward a digitally driven and cashless economy.
