NEW YORK: The participants of the third ministerial meeting of the Quadrilateral Group of Pakistan, China, Iran and Russia have expressed concern over security challenges emanating from Afghanistan.
Terrorism threat from the country topped the concerns of the ministers who called on the Afghan interim government to fight the menace and eliminate all terrorist groups and prevent Afghan territory from being used against its neighbors, the region and beyond.
Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif represented the country in the meeting.
The meeting held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly also discussed efforts for promotion of peace, security and stability in Afghanistan.
The participants emphasized the importance of engagement with Afghanistan and to continue close coordination between the four countries to strengthen regional efforts for the normalization of situation in Afghanistan and addressing its various challenges in a comprehensive manner.
