SRINAGAR: At least 30 people have died following severe rainfall and landslides in the Indian occupied Kashmir, according to media reports.
An incident of landsliding took place near the Vaishno Devi temple in Katra, a city in the Indian occupied region of Jammu and Kashmir, due to heavy rains.
Rescue teams were immediately deployed after the landslides occurred. Several others were injured and have been rushed to hospitals for medical treatment. The casualties include both local residents and pilgrims visiting the temple.
The Meteorological Department has warned of more thunderstorms and rainfall in the region, urging residents in hilly and low-lying areas to take precautions and avoid unnecessary travel.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah noted that authorities are still struggling with “an almost defunct communication system” while coordinating relief and rescue operations.
